I always wonder if people think they're somehow complimenting Toby at all when they like all his older stuff but consistently put down anything related to Undertale, because it always seems like an insult to me. I'm under the impression that whenever anyone says his Earthbound stuff was better, they say it because Earthbound isn't associated with a bad fandom not because it is actually better in any technical way compared to his newer work.

The “Checkerboard” in the name, comes from the background of the earthbound naming screen - it being a blue checkerboard.
